Marine Training Reviews & All Training Reviews

review sea survival course

"As a trainer myself in a volunteer and professional capacity it was a pleasure to have you training me as I found you articulate, engaging and well timed in the delivery and explanation of the course content. People often ask me where they can do their first aid training and I certainly won't hesitate in recommending you as their trainer and will direct them to Training Aid Australia to book their course. Thanks again for a great course".

Lauren Elder

2 day full course / 1 day revalidation in Sydney and Brisbane (YA SR 6.01 Accredited Training)

On successful completion of the Sea Survival Training training programme participants will be issued with Sea Survival Certificates.

Sea Survival Course Details

This is a 1 or 2 day face to face course, from 7.30am to 5pm. Theory in the morning, then after lunch travel to pool for water activities.

12 Students per Sea Survival Training course maximum.

The syllabus delivered meets the requirements of the International Sailing Federation and the MCA/RYA as well as Australian Yacht Racing Authorities.

The Sea Survival Training Revalidation course is only for sailors who have previously completed YA’s SSSC. If your YA Certificate has expired by over 12 months you must do the full 2 day course again. You must have logged 2500nm in the last 5 years to be eligible for this one day revalidation and provide proof of sea miles.

Your instructor/s are Cape Horn veterans with extensive Southern Ocean/severe weather sailing experience.

Sea Survival Course Requirements

You must bring:

  1. Proof of Identity such as a Passport or photo ID (Drivers Licence).
  2. Change of clothes when undertaking water activities in pool. Students must be fully clothed in overalls or jeans, joggers & rugby style top whilst in the water. Offshore wet weather gear can also be used (including sea boots, PFD1, harness & tether).

We provide the Sea Survival Training course notes, manual and examination papers. Students are to provide a pen, note pad, lunch (shops nearby), sun protection and warm clothing.

Note: No transport will be provided to the pool site for wet training but car sharing often occurs by prior arrangement or cab share at roughly $5 per person.

A PDF1 and Safety Harness - if you can’t get your hands on these, let us know and we can arrange a set for $40.

Do not purchase PFD's, Harnesses or Tethers Prior to Attending this Course. We are not equipment retailers. We have tested most brands of the above equipment over the last 10 years, in test conditions in water and at sea. We have on hand what we consider to be the best equipment available on the Australian market for you to appraise. We do know what not to buy and what to look for, in selecting your offshore safety gear. We have on hand equipment to suit all budgets. We do not earn commissions from equipment suppliers.

Who should undertake this Qualification?

Initial Sea Survival Training course covers the requirements of ISAF Special Regulation 6.01 Appendix G for Category Zero, One and Two yacht races globally.
