Who should undertake this Qualification?
This Penthrox Methoxyflurane course reflects the use of an analgesic gas during the role of a professional health officer to the general public being Dentists, Podiatry and General Practitioners.
Individuals completing this Penthrox Methoxyflurane course will develop and/ or enhance skills and knowledge to help equip them to administer an analgesic drug to patients during routine procedures within a health care practice to minimise anxiety, discomfort and pain.
Health care professionals currently administrating analgesic gas to patients should ensure that they hold a current certification in the use and should ensure that all staff within the practice are trained in its use to help patient comfort.

Penthrox Pre-Requisites
Candidates may enter this Penthrox Methoxyflurane course directly with no course pre-requisites.
Penthrox Course Details
This method of Penthrox Methoxyflurane course delivery is required to ensure that participants can complete relevant course subjects by face to face instruction and demonstrate to an assessor the correct administration of a Penthrox Inhaler to a patient.
With face to face learning, participants are required to attend 3 hours of face to face instruction and assessment with an approved assessor to show competency and skill set.
Individuals are required to attend the three hours to complete instruction and or assessment tasks to achieve the part completion of the Advanced First Aid HLTFA402B - Administration of an Analgesic gas - Penthrox.
Students must be 14 years old on the day of course completion. Students to provide a pen and note pad and wear comfortable clothing. If an invoice is required please contact Training Aid Australia’s head office.

Penthrox Assessments
All participants are required to competently complete all assessments. The written evidence required may be submitted by using our online submission form, by email or post. This evidence will demonstrate the required knowledge and skills for the safe administration of an analgesic gas.
We recommend that you use your learning material workbooks to make notes in, and then submit your assessments at the end of the course.
Subjects within this course will require you to demonstrate your competency skill set. This will be achieved by a combination of observations, discussions, written assignments, tests, examinations and practical projects.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Students who wish to enrol into this Penthrox Methoxyflurane course will need to have the following language, literacy and numeracy skills as a minimum:
Literacy skills to:
- Read and interpret relevant information
- Prepare required documentation for assessments
Language skills to:
- Engage with the assessor and other students on the online forum
- Communicate electronically using accepted language and style
- Ensure what is being said is appropriate and clear

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL Applications are not accepted for this course.
Penthrox Certification
Once a competent mark is issued for all subjects, you will be issued with a Part completion of the Advanced First Aid HLTFA402B – Administration of an Analgesic gas – Penthrox. This qualification is an Australian Qualification Framework accredited course and Nationally Recognised Training from the Health Training Package (2007).
CPD Points or Credits
Training Aid Australia will provide each participant with a letter outlining CPD Points and/or Credits achieved with this training.
