WHS Consultation Course (OHS Health and Safety) $655 - Sydney CBD Training Centre
This course for Health Safety Representatives has replaced the previous OHS Consultation course 90502NSW under the previous OHS Act 2000 in NSW and QLD. During 2012 all States and Territories will be moving from the old OHS Consultation course under the old OHS Act 2000 to the new Health and Safety Representative Course under the new Work Health and Safety legislation where current Representatives or committees members will need to complete the national Health Safety Representative training courses as described under the new Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
The previous OHS Consultation course described under the previous NSW OHS Act 2000 is now known as Health Safety Representative training under the new Work Health and Safety Act 2011 in NSW and QLD.
This course will be for Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) that have been elected to represent a workgroup/s for their workplace under the new Work, Health, and Safety Act. It aims to familiarise participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply the principles of workplace WHS consultation as an integral part of effective WHS management system (WHSMS). The course should also assist in the development of appropriate attitudes to enable HS Representatives to effectively carry out their functions under WHS Legislation.
Who Needs to Attend this Course?
The target group for this course is for persons elected as the HS Representatives of a workgroup at their place of work. Persons wishing to hold this position or persons elected to a committee, where they may help or take on the role as the HS Representative. Existing committees where the PCBU has maintained this committee as their consultation method.
Persons attending this course must request this training from their Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) (Business Owner or Manager).

The delivery method of this course is Face to Face only.
Course Content
This course is an approved WorkCover course and must meet the requirements of WorkCover NSW training package. Participants will need to complete all Topics as set out in the course guide provided by WorkCover NSW.
The course content is not available now, but will consist of the following topics:
- Day One: Introduction and the NSW Legislation
- Day Two: Consultation, Workgroups, Election procedures, HSR Roles and responsabilities and Roles and Responsabilties of Health Safety Committees
- Day Three: Effective Consultation, Communication skills, Record Keeping, Investigating skills, Issue resolution, Negotiation and conflict resolution skills, Risk Management Techniques
- Day Four: Workplace Inspections, Report writing skills, Notifiable incidentsand investigate incidents
- Day Five: Issuing of PIN notices, Order to cessation of unsafe work.

Legislative Requirements
The WHS Legislation sets out the requirements for Training of an HS Representative. These establish important processes to enhance consultation and other duties between the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) (previously known as the employer), the Officer and others as established under the WHS Legislation. The Regulation details how a PCBU should consult with their officer and others while including them in the OHS decision making process, utilising HS Representatives, Committees and or other agreed arrangements.
Section 72 of the WHS Act requires that, if the PCBU is asked by a HS Representative to have this training available, the PCBU must allow this course as soon as practicable after being requested.
Time Required for Training
Clause 2.1.7 of the WHS Regulations requires the course to be completed over 5 days with a total of training hours being 32 (hours to be determined).
If a person has completed the OHS Consultation Course 90502NSW under the previous OHS Legislation, this person will only need to complete a bridging course. Evidence of prior completion will be required prior to sitting the bridging course.
Clause 2.1.7 of the WHS Regulations also states that if requested, a PCBU must make available refresher training to a HS Representative every 12 months.
Course Cost
The cost of the Course per participant is $655.00. WHS accredited training is GST Exempt. For large group Bookings please contact our head office for a Group Booking pricing schedule.

Re-assessment fee - $80.00 per unit of competency (if not passed as competent)
Group Booking Requirements
For Group Bookings a minimal participant enrolment is 5.
Course Material
Participants will be provided all course material required to complete this course that could include course notes, copies of relevant legislation, case studies and assessment tools. Students will be required to bring pen and paper.
Assessment Requirements
Due to the nature of this course, participants will be required to complete the following to receive their certificate:
- Be actively involved in all course activities
- Complete a workplace inspection
- Course Quiz at Completion of course
Please note that there is not formal assessment for this course.
Course Outcome
On completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate approved by Work Cover NSW valid for a period of one year where participants will be required to complete a one day refresher course annually at a cost of $220 per participant.
