Upon completion of this Mining Induction course, a statement of attainment for Mining Induction will be issued, along with the units of competency from the partial completion of nationally recognised Certificate II in Surface Mining Extraction.
This Mining Induction qualification is an accredited course and Nationally Recognised Training from the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package (2009 version 1).

This is a 2 day face-to-face course, from 8.30am to 4:30pm with required pre-reading.
The Surface Mining Induction course (formerly known as the Generic Mining Induction) discusses relevant information surrounding safety, policies, procedures and risk control. Students learn about their responsibilities regarding WHS and various documentation requirements relevant to a working mine. Successful completion of this course provides graduates with an entry point to gaining employment in surface mining.
The Mining Induction course program runs for the duration of two days, in which both theory and practical related mining scenario assignments will be utilised.

Eligible candidates must be 18 years and over.
This Mining Induction course requires you to bring ID, comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes. You must complete the course pre-reading prior to your face-to-face training date.
Mining Industry workplace requirements and policies apply at this training course, therefore demonstration of appropriate workplace behaviour is expected.
The Mining Induction course introduces you to the dangers that are present on a mine site and shows you how to work safely. It is an introduction to the mining industry which covers:

This Mining Induction Course meets the requirements of the QLD Standard 11 certification
Upon successful competency achieved for each Mining Induction unit, students will have successfully gained their Surface Mining Induction Card and will receive a Statement of Attainment** and colour Photo ID Mining Induction card. In addition to gaining the Surface Mining Induction Card, students will also gain partial completion of nationally recognised Certificate II in Surface Mining Extraction.
**Workplace Assessment - For students who are not actively employed in the industry at the time the training course was completed, you will have to engage in mining employment to complete the workplace activities before you can officially complete and finish the course. Students receive a Statement of Completion after the course completion and once the workplace assessment is handed in a Statement of Attainment is issued!
(Please note: Students will need to attend a one-day refresher program at a minimum of every 5 years, however most mine sites require this to be done more frequently).
Prior to working on a coal mine, a worker must undergo a medical examination in accordance with the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme. The examination includes an assessment of the worker's ability to perform the job.
This medical examination must be performed by a Nominated Medical Adviser (NMA), a doctor nominated by a mine operator to conduct health assessments. A coal mine workers health assessment is valid for up to 5 years.
