This course is aimed at participants to learn theoretical knowledge along with the advantage of practical experience operating a Caterpillar 773, 100 ton, dump truck. Joining in a replicated mining environment and following the same policies/procedures found at many mines, students gain a solid foundation that leads to employment. An additional benefit derived from this course is an opportunity to operate an excavator which is included as part of the overall experience.

Course Pre-Requisites

Eligible candidates must be 18 years and over and hold a current car driver's licence.

Classroom Learning

The course program runs for the duration of five days, in which both in class theory as well as haul dump truck operating experience at a replicated mine site are utilised. Both day and night driving experience will be gained during this course.

Course Requirements

This course requires you to bring a water bottle, hi-vis shirt with tape, steel cap boots (minimum 170mm high), hard hat, riggers gloves, long pants (either jeans or work pants).

Assessments

All participants are required to competently complete the day and night practical and theory assessments.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Students who wish to enrol into this course will need to have competent language, literacy and numeracy skills to participate in both theory and practical session.

Outcome

On successful completion of this course students will receive a Statement of Attainment certificate in Conduct Haul (Dump) Truck Operations.

Certification

Upon completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the units of competency partially achieved out of the Certificate II in Surface Mining Extraction.

This qualification is an Australian Qualification Framework accredited course and Nationally Recognised Training from the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package (2009 version 1).

This qualification is delivered under a partnership agreement with Industry Pathways (NPN:32315).

Medicals

Prior to working on a coal mine, a worker must undergo a medical examination in accordance with the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme. The examination includes an assessment of the worker's ability to perform the job.

This medical examination must be performed by a Nominated Medical Adviser (NMA), a doctor nominated by a mine operator to conduct health assessments. A coal mine workers health assessment is valid for up to 5 years.
