Long and Short course
The course for the East Coast Ocean Challenge is set between the headlands of Bondi and Bronte Beach. The course is designed to allow the race director to decide which way the circuit will be completed after consideration of the swell and wind direction. On the day of the event the direction of course will be announced by the race director to the competitors at the race briefing which is at 7.45am.
The course circuit is 4.4km in length with the start and finish at Bondi Beach. All competitors must go around the designated course on the correct side of the buoys or they will be disqualified from the race.
There will be a beach run at the half way point for all competitors. As each competitor reaches the beach they must leave their craft and run up around the flag (in front of the finishing line) before continuing the second half of the circuit. The second half of the course is exactly the same as the first lap. As competitors reach Bondi Beach from the final lap they may leave their craft and run up the beach to cross the finish line.
Competitors are allowed to have handlers on the waters edge to turn their craft around.
Long Course - 17.6km (4 laps of 4.4km course)
The start of the long course race will be 'Le mon' style, where each competitor will run to their craft, (at the waters edge) to begin 4 laps of the 4.4km circuit.
Short Course - 8.8km (2 laps of 4.4km course) The competitors entered into the short course will be started approximately a half hour after the Masters, Open and U21 competitors. The short course competitors will be started at the waters edge by the official starter on the day.
The direction of the circuit will be the same for all competitors on the day which will be specified at the race briefing on the morning of the Event - 7.45am. |
